Vegas 8.0c show max memory 1GB, but I have 2GB?

Fotis_Greece wrote on 10/27/2008, 10:28 AM
I have 4x512 same memory sticks Kingston HyperX Dual Channel Kits installed and Win XP shows correctly 2GB Ram in system properties.
However in Vegas in Dynamic RAM Preview settings I can see that I can set it up to 1024 as this is what Vegas show as max.
Is this a bug or something else?
Thanks in advance

the ram preview only goes so high. besides, you can't use all of how: how would anything else us the memory? : )

In 32 bit Windows, the maximum a program can access is 2 GB. If Vegas let you use 2 GB for RAM previews, it wouldn't have anything left for the rest of its tasks. If you use 64 bit Vista and Vegas 8.1, it lets you set a higher RAM preview, but Vista x64 is not worth it unless you have 4 GB or more.

Can you config the memory remap in the BIOS to use more than 2GB?

I thought 32-bit Windows could address ~3.5Gb of RAM?

It can. Also, not as many accessories are compatible with 64-bit, though they are slowly growing compatible.

Yes, with a special flag set for the OS and the memory remap option turned on in the BIOS. But even that won't help you with Vegas 8.0c, since it is not compiled with the "Large_Address_Aware" flag. Some people here have fooled with editing the Vegas.exe file and changing the flag setting, but it does nothing. 32 bit Vegas will only use 2 GB RAM under 32 bit Vista.

True, but you can run other apps simultaneously. I have 4 GB RAM, after the Bios memory remap, My Computer properties still only shows 2.93 GB
