vegas 8.0c XP 64bit and Divx avi probs

Hi gang,

Hope someone can point me in theright direction.
I just got a new Nehalen Core i7 PC. I put 64bit XP on it.
I put Vegas 8.0c (32bit) so I'd still have my plugins.

I create a test project with 20min or so of test footage. Footage is Divx 6.1.1 Avi.

I save the project. Close Vegas and reopen it. It defaults to the test project but all the video tracks are "red" and no video shows in the preview window. I go to the explorer window in Vegas and reopen the test .veg file. Now some of the video tracks load but not always and not all of the track. Sometimes one of the tracks is completely "red" and sometimes several frames are "red" (missing).

Sometimes if I zoom into the video track then the video reluctantly populates the track. If I zoom back out then various frames go "red" again.

Is this a codec problem?
Is it a 32bit vegas in a 64bit OS problem?

I cannot get DivX to play back on my 64 bit machine- I don't think the architecture is supported yet. I could be wrong on that one. What it does on mine is shuts the player down. I can encode just fine though- but I use the DivX encoder for that.

Yup. appears to be a Divx Xvid prob.
Converted on my 32bit PC to DV format, copied to 64bit box and it's all good.

Now the next question:

What's a good converter that runs in XP 64bit?
