It shows up for me as an AVI video format labeled "DebugMode FSVFWC (internal use)". However, it doesn't seem to be working right.

I wonder if this just requires a registry change simlar to what's required for Raylight?

<Fixed> See ForumAdmin 'T.' response for the answer lower down in this posting.
Thanks Sony and all who brought this to the right people's attention.
Yipee!

Yeah, Satish's DebugMode FrameServer is something that I use all the time in Vegas 7, and I'm hoping to in Vegas Pro 8 as well...

Honestly, I've used it on just about every Vegas 7 project I've done. No offense to the MainConcept encoder, but I'm more expert with TMPGEnc and I know how to use some of its tweaks that aren't in the MainConcept encoder.

I only use the Frame Server too. That AVI is the only one Procoder can recognize.

This is because we changed the registry hive to our new company name. Vegas 8 is now looking in a different registry location so it cannot find the Frameserver plug-in.

You can use the following workaround to export the old (Sony Media Software) registry location to a file for the plug-in, then edit it to fix the path to the new registry location (Sony Creative Software). Then import your change so the plug-in is registered in the new hive, then Vegas 8 can find it.

Make sure you are running in an account with Administrator permission to run regedit. The usual disclaimer applies, you should do this only if you are comfortable using regedit and are careful to follow the exact steps below.

Do this after you've installed the Frameserver plug-in (otherwise the registry key won't exist):

1. Run regedit
2. Navigate to this folder in the left pane: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\File Formats 2\{8D9B667F-D109-4855-8C3F-2C5834D10573}
3. Right click on the folder, select Export, save to a file named FrameserverFix.reg
4. Open this file in Notepad. Change the text in the third line to read Sony Creative Software instead of Sony Media Software (just change the word Media to Creative).
5. Save the changes.
6. Double click on FrameserverFix.reg in the Windows Explorer. Answer Yes when you are warned about changing the registry and are asked to continue.
7. Run Vegas and you should now be able to use the Frameserver plug-in.

There is a similar workaround for Raylight MXF on this thread:

Thanks T,

Also, I noticed that my directory was labeled HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Media Software\File Formats 2, so I removed the space and 2. When I opened Vegas Pro 8 and saw that frameserver did not show up, I went back and re-added the space and the 2. Hizzah, it worked!

If it helps anyone, my registry file ended up looking like this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software\File Formats 2\{8D9B667F-D109-4855-8C3F-2C5834D10573}]
@="DebugMode FrameServer"
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Sony\\Shared Plug-Ins\\File Formats\\dfscVegasOut.dll"
"Extensions"="*.avi"
"DialogName"="DebugMode FrameServer"
"Access"=dword:00000020
"StreamType"=dword:00000003
