Running sluggish doing what exactly?
If you're trying to preview DV with no FXs off an internal drive something is remiss. If HDV off an external USB drive with a few FXs you're doing pretty well.

If you have your project set for 32 bit floating instead of the normal 8 bit, you will notice a fairly large difference in preview speed and quality.

I use a similar machine except with 2 gig of RAM. It's a fine system for SD but a borderline one for HDV.

I usually use http://www.vasst.com/product.aspx?id=5830e4f9-d99b-4d0b-908d-aa4954c324a3Vasst Gearshift[/link] so that I can work with HDV more smoothly.

If you do want to work with HDV directly on a borderline system, try previewing at preview resolution at auto size with both "simulate device aspect ratio" and "scale video to fit preview window" turned off. This will keep Vegas from trying to rescale your video on the fly which is quite hard on the CPU.

This is the kind of thing that you will hardly notice on a faster PC but will really tie up a slower processor like you and I have. It turns out that it is easier for Vegas to preview a half sized window than it is a smaller scaled one.

Turning off the aspect ratio scaling means you have to look at a square squished preview, but it is a lot easier for Vegas to preview if your CPU is borderline.

You should also go into your preferences and make sure your dynamic ram preview is set to a low amount of memory like maybe 64 meg. 1 gig used to be a large amount of memory, but it isn't very much when it comes to video editing.

I have been using DV. The project includes 4 hours of video. Would it help if i saved the video in 2 parts? eg. first 2 hours, last 2 hours.

I do not know much about computer hardware so this might sound weird but would it help if i bought another proccessor and had 2 working???

thanks for ya help everyone :)
