Vegas 8 RAM Requirements

Chuck_DeFiore wrote on 9/4/2007, 12:05 PM
In looking at the system requirements for Vegas 8, it appears as if you need 1 GB of RAM. Is this a minimum or a recommended amount?

I was looking forward to upgrading, but only run 512 MB of RAM, which works just fine with version 7 and the material we deal with. If this is necessary just to run version 8, it probably becomes a deal breaker for us.

Thanks,

Chuck

upgrading to 1gb should be painless and not a big expense...i would think 1gb is the minimum for v8 ...adding ram should not be a dealbreaker and you should want to add as much ram as your machine allows...

That's a shame, with memory so cheap these days, that it'd be a deal breaker. But give it a little wait and see what people say once they've tried V8 out for a week or two. That'd be wise anyway.

I wonder if that is a requirement of Vegas 8 or a requirement of Vista.

When Vegas 8 is launched we should try an do a comparison of it running on XP and Vista.

Hi Folks,

When i say deal breaker, my Dell uses RAM that is about 3 times the cost of RAM on my wife's machine, plus it only has 2 slots which currently use 2 256 sticks, so I have to get rid of those and go to either 512 or 1 GB sticks. When I factor in that except for the titler which I'd like to have, but don't need, there is nothing in version 8 I actual need, it really doesn't pay to upgrade now. When the day comes I replace the computer, then upgrading to version 8 would make sense.

Of course, my common sense has been known to take a back seat at times :-)

Sounds like you're using SO_DIMMS (laptop memory). Yep, that can be a deal breaker.

Sorry to hear it. Still, there'll be a demo you can download and try out. Then you'll know for sure.

Great idea - will be interesting to see the difference..

RAMBUS? Yes, that is expensive. So expensive (in the UK) that it was only sightly more expensive to build a whole new PC (core2duo) with 1GB RAM than than to upgrade.

Really if you are serious about any graphics program you need 2GB, and fast ram too. Might just consider a new machine. HP have a Core 2 Duo (E4500) with 2GB RAM for $689

Currently running Vegas 8 on an old laptop with 768MB of RAM, it's sluggish, but it's also an old processor. Compaq EVO with a 1.2 GHz proc, PIII.
It "manages" HDV, barely.

I just picked up a factory refurb HP A6040N at Fry's for $499 Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86 GHz with 320 GB SATA and 2 GB RAM.

Well done Konrad. Finding a good deal is nearly always better than trying to upgrade something. Last year I took a 1.4GHz laptop with 512K RAM to UK to edit some HDV, and even with Cineform it just was a non starter. Vegas is such a great program, show it you love it with a few resources.

I'm probably just boasting 'cos I'm excited about my latest purchase, but as I'm capturing to HDD and doing more editing in the field I have replaced my desktop with a fairly fast laptop. This what I got for $3K: Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4MHz, 1066Mhz fsb, 17.1" WUXGA 1920x1200 screen, 2GB of 800ns RAM, 80MG 7200 system drive, 2x100MB 7200 RAID 0 video drive and a NVidia Quadro FX Go2500m, 512MB graphics card. I'm hoping Vegas will now love me as much as I love it!
