Vegas 8 rejects YouTube downloaded mp4

Tried everything I can think of.

Downloaded 2 videos using a video downloader as 720p mp4. Wanted to put them on a DVD using Vegas Pro 8c and DVDA.

On one computer Vegas crashes and on the other it displays only audio.

The videos play fine using Quicktime, VLC Media player, and load and play fine in Sorenson Squeeze 9's player.

The codec info is
Video: H264 - MPEG 4 - AVC (Part 10) (AVC-1).
Audio: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)

I tried converting it to NTSC DV using Squeeze and it shows no video either.

Tried converting it to .m2ts using tsmuxer and it crashes Vegas
Tried converting it to .ts using tsmuxer and it crashed Vegas.

Every file I convert plays fine in various media players, but Vegas cannot handle it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

You need to run it through AVIdemux first after downloading.
Copy, Copy, MP4 are the settings.
Working in 8.0c here.

Thanks for the reply musicvid10,

I downloaded and installed AVIdemux and opened the mp4 file.

Video output - copy
Audio output - copy
Output Format - MP4 Muxer

Chose Save

Imported the resulting mp4 into Vegas Pro 8c

All the video frames were Green and only the audio showed up just like with the other programs.

EDIT: Downloaded it again using a different browser and the results were the same.

I've never had anything fail to convert using Format Factory or Any Video Converter. Both are free.

I finally tried Procoder 3 and converted it to Microsoft Video For Windows (avi.) and Vegas accepted it without error.

If I didn't know better, I would think Vegas was the problem.

Thanks for the help guys.

Vegas 10 works with no issues loading that Youtube mp4. I used KeepVid: http://keepvid.com/

Today my dad loaded a Youtube mp4 download via realplayer in Vegas 8.

Using AviDemux 2.6 32 bit.
lav decoder.
Your file works.

UPDATE:
I downloaded the latest 2.6.8 32 bit, and it also works, using mp4 (not mp4v2) muxer.

Not sure why it works for some. Procoder worked for me by converting it to video for windows which Vegas liked.

Thanks for the help. I'll try the software both of you recommended for other things so it is much appreciated.
