Vegas 8 Trimmer playback stutter

Apologies if this subject was covered, altho when I did a search I did not find anything. When playing back an audio clip (wav, aiff, etc) in the Trimmer window, I quite often hear clicks, stutter, etc. If I back the playback up a few seconds and play over the same area, it then sounds fine. The same file plays back perfectly whilst on a track or in Soundforge. Is the trimmer window using a different playback driver or something? Any thoughts?

You may find that this is a disk/filesystem related issue, particularly if you are running everything off a single hard drive -- you get lots of processes competing for I/O.

When you playback over the same portion, often those disk blocks will be cached in memory, thus bypassing the disk I/O bottle neck.
