Vegas 8 upgrade

I just built a new computer with Vista OS. I called Sony and they said that Vegas 7, which I have on my old computer, is not compatible with Vista. This is forcing me to spend a lot of money for an upgrade. My questions is, how long has vers. 8 been out and is vers. 9 going to be out in the near future. I don't want to sink all that money into 8 if 9 will be coming out, I'd rather wait. The downfall of technology advances - too much money always needed to keep your computer needs going. Thanks for your input and suggestions if you have any.

Why not run XP on your new computer?

7 runs on Vista. There is a difference between running "supported" and running.

Bottom line - 7 runs on my Vista OS's (multiple machines, not fluke). Vegas 8 has been around for a little while, and (purely conjecture now) since it's only v8b, there's plenty of life in it before we see an updated version. My fav version is 8, without a doubt, but 7 is on there for backup just in case.
