With the new "No Recompress Long GOP" feature and the multi-cam feature, and all you are doing is cuts, Vegas pro 8 will be better than recording straight to DVD. It will be especially quick if you are able to record straight to hard drive and bypass the tape.

Depends upon if you want the capability to edit. If there is no need to edit the switched program, then recording to DVD is the way to go. But if you want the capability to fix things and have the time the Vegas is a great tool.
You could also record the switched program to Vegas while using the camera tapes for post fixes later.
