Vegas 8 won't import audio from MPG but 7 does

I have Vegas 6, 7, and 8 installed on my video editting machine and 6 and 7 have always worked great.

I upgraded to 8 and now when I import MPG files that I created from Sony DVgate plus software (and maybe others, havent tried) I can't get the audio stream. In 7 it works fine... in 8 I only get video and it doesn't even see an audio stream.

If I open a 7 .veg file in 8 I get an error saying:
"FILENAME has changed enough that the media stream properties from the project file could not be applied. Default media stream properties were used."

Meanwhile there was no change to the file, I made it literally 10 seconds earlier with 7 and it worked fine in 7.

I've seen this problem posted on other forums but no solutions.

Please help, Vegas 8 is utterly useless if I can't get this to work.

May or may not be relevant, but...

Do all of your Preferences in one and the other version match? Particularly anything dealing with audio. I noticed that while V8 did carry over Preferences from my pre-upgrade version (6 in my case), some settings did not.

I.e. Virtual RAM was reset to 128 Mb instead of my max setting of 1028 Mb. Other things also had and still have to be tweaked.

Fire up both 7 and 8 side by side with no open project and check it out. If you can do so, do it with a file open and see if any project properties have changed.

On the other hand, and I'm in no position to say whether true or not, it could be bug yet to be ironed out by Sony.
