Vegas 8 Yamaha mLan

Hello:

First post ( please be gentle)

Long Long Time Sound Forge user (4.5 through all versions to SF 9)

I purchased Vegas 8 and Sound Forge 9 recently. I understand from the Sound Forge forum that SF 9 will NOT run on mLan. I have a Yamaha O1X digital interface. I was wondering will Vegas 8 run on the O1X?

I thought I would ask first before trying to install. My workstation is loaded with client projects and I didn't want to mess up my stable system.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

That thread is not even close to the issue that DonM1 asked about. - and the post is from 2005!

It is not like you to talk about things you don't have first hand knowlege of or experiance with. Why this time?

I have an OX1 and it works both as a control surface in MCU mode and as an ASIO i/o device for Vegas and ACID.

There were issues with Forge 9 early on, but these were resolved.

Where did you read tha mLan and Forge do not work correctly? I would like to follow up on this.

Installing Vegas or Forge will not affect your client projects - unless you change them and save them in the new versions. You should always back up critical data anyway.

Peter,
I did what any other visitor might do, search for "mLan" on the audio forum and that's the most recent thread.
You've now updated that information here but who would think to search the Video Forum?
And yes, you're right, I have zero first hand experience of this topic, but there's little chance of that happening if the most up to date information I can find is that it isn't supported.
You guys are doing great work but sometimes it's hard to find out about it. Simple suggestion, why not update the thread that I found with the latest good news, or post a new one?

Bob.

Peter:

Thanks for the reply. The Sound Forge 9 incompatibility with mLan was confirmed by Sony support in an series of message I exchanged with Sony Customer Service when SF9 came out. The CS representative indicated the problem was with mLan and he had little confidence Yamaha would put any effort into a rev.

It seems from your post Vegas is working on the O1X - Vegas 8 or Vegas 7. I suspect 7 may work fine - but again I am more specifically interested in Vegas 8.

Again thanks for you assistance.

We did address and issue in Forge 9 related to a bug in the mLan driver. I confered with Yamaha engineers and they confirmed the problem, but made no promises they would update their drivers.

I just ran a real quick test with Vegas 8 and mLan. It worked as expected, though I did not pound on it.

Ok, but you still made a subjective comment with out any real knowlege or first hand experiacnce.

I just don't think that is the right thing to do as it promotes misinformation.

I also don'y buy your solution.

We do pay attention to the forums. When help is needed and identified, we address the current issue.

Going back to update a 2005 forum post doesn't really make much sense. It would be a HUGE task to update all threads for the last year, let alone the last 5 years or more for each and every issue we have addressed in prior versions agaisnt every possible software or hardware vendor we integrate with.

We update things as required. We address things as they come up - as in this case.

Thanks,
Peter
