Vegas 8b lockup on HDV render

Avanti wrote on 6/24/2008, 8:32 AM
My first use of V8b and first HDV edit project and my first Vegas render lockup ever since V4.

I'm trying to render a 30 second video intro in V8b, in took 2 hours to get 39% complete, then hung there for another 2 hours doing no progress. I had to shut it down with Task manager. This is the error report from Task Manager:

Welcome to the club...

First off make sure you're not using Vegas in 32bit mode. 32bit mode is just plain broken right now. Second, many of us are experiencing render hangs. The way I work around it is to render small sections at a time. If I get a crash during a render I usually bring in the rendered footage that made it before the crash, drop it on the timeline and continue on from there.

Sorry I could not be of more help. If you do a search on this forum you may finds some suggestions on Vegas/Windows settings to try to minimize the problem but I think Vegas is just unstable at this time for HDV. 8.0c is supposed to be out "soon" and will hopefully fix the problems.

Regards, Marc

Again, I'm betting this is an Intel Quad core issue - it seems anyone here who is experiencing issues with Vegas Pro is running an Intel Quad core.

Cliff,

I'm running two Zeon dual core processors. Would that qualify as a quad core?

jrazz,

it worked for me this time, but I don't think you can call it an "official fix".

Technically - it could.

It seems that anyone having issues related to editing HDV content with Vegas Pro is running Intel Quad Core processors. Not saying anything bad about Intel - it could be that since Intel has the larger market share for processors, there is a greater incidence of issues with Vegas Pro users who have Intel CPU's.

Was it a marketing ploy that AMD was involved with the Vegas Pro 64bit demo at NAB earlier this year or is there something to the idea that AMD CPU's might work with little or no issues with Vegas - only speculating though.
