Vegas 8c interlacing prob

Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone can help me with a prob i'm having...

I'm getting interlacing flicker or sync problems. Tried everything to get rid of it double checked all my settings but the only thing that sometimes works is 'reduce interlace flicker' switch but that just seems to add blur. Even a fresh install didn't help.

I'm working with PAL DV and the source file plays perfectly, but the problems start in vegas and render out in the same way. Apart from converting to progressive, i feel a bit stuck on this one. Been using vegas for years and never had this prob.

Any advice will be greatly received!
thanks

What is your source?
If you're shooting HD then you can get issues scaling to SD 50i.

Can you please elaborate on "I'm getting interlacing flicker or sync problems."

By any chance are you seeing very juddery movement, especially on fast vertical movement?

Why vertical, Bob?
Are you hiding some important observation under your sleeve?

Field order problems seem to show up more with vertical movement than horizontal. At the moment I'm trying to plumb the depths of a field order problem. I posted about this yesterday but it's kind of fallen of the bottom of the page.

Yes, I agree completely - did you notice it on my DVD, when Marcin plays Rodrigo, and there is that pan up to the red-lighten ceiling?

And yes, I've seen your post - but unfortunately, I have no CRT to check or control my output...

Sadly, I guess I must assume most people use progressive displays nowadays!

Hi Bob

Sorry for the delayed reply, been on holiday. The source is SD 50i, the problem is definitely worse with heavier camera movement. By "interlacing flicker or sync problems" i mean the horizontal lines go out of sync [left to right] with camera movement which does also appear a bit juddery.

Any thoughts?

First obvious thing to check is the field order of your source footage. I doubt that's the problem but best to get that out of the way before delving any deeper.
See recent post on how to check this here.

If that's not the problem check that your project settings are correct, it's easy to select PAL Standard when it should be PAL DV.

Next check that you have a de-interlace method specified. Try Interpolate.

Next question. Is this the footage from a different camera from what you've used before.

Hi Bob

Yes i've tried all that and it's the same camera i've been using for 2 years, so i really am stumped on this. It must be something simple, the raw footage plays back fine in media player and i've even tried different codecs as well as a re-install.

Can you suggest anything else?

Please tell, what item is chosen in a field "Deinterlace method " (in Project Properties) - Blend, Interpolate or None ?
