Vegas 8D update before Vegas 9?

cliff_622 wrote on 3/2/2009, 6:33 AM
I guess it's pretty well known that Vegas 9 will be released at NAB next month. Wahoo,...cant wait to see what they have for 9.

However,...does anybody know if there will be an an "8D" fix before the 9 release?

I just want a fix for 8 that puts an end to the Quad-core rendering hell that many of us are going through. (on large AVCHD projects, I'm reduced to rebooting and slashing my processor cores in half in my BIOS just before rendering)

I hope I wont need to by 9 to get that fix. I will buy 9 anyway at some point,...I just want to see that get fixed in 8 first.

Anybody know?

That's news to me.
Do you have a confirmed source (i.e. someone from SCS) for this?

We're all hoping that SCS will even be there.

SCS is probably wondering about that also, since the new CEO of Sony just reorganized all its divisions.

You should be encoding your AVCHD to a Cineform codec or similar. That would end your editing frustrations.

I guess they will be at NAB after all.

People are reading too much into these portents both ways.
All that shows is they'd booked floor space. Doing that and actually being there are two different matters.
We'd booked floor space at the upcoming SMPTE exhibition in Sydney. We will not be there and we're not alone in cancelling. Those decisions have nothing to do with how well our businesses are going rather it's because we're in concert trying to get the organisers to see how daft their show timing is.

SCS will be at NAB. Our booth is about 30' from theirs. Can't comment on what Sony will or won't announce, but SCS, BPSD, and other Sony divisions will be there, in the same slot they've occupied for CES. They've moved to Central Hall this year, as it made more sense to do so. Bigger area, more meeting rooms, easier to share space with partners, and more centrally located to both halls.
There will be an SCS party just as in years past, except with a different flow, an exciting flow, and performance during the party. It's more of a party this year than ever before (and we won't ask anyone to sit through a 20 minute presentation that somehow turned into 80 mins. ;-)
Lotsa fun planned.

That's good news Spot. When will the invites go out?
If they finally add native 10bit support (not just for uncompressed) you'll get to see a middle aged fat man do hand springs. hehehe. I'm pretty close to adding Avid MCP to my systems. (Not leaving Vegas, so no threats here). But if I didn't have to...

Has an update release for an old version (i.e. 8.0d) ever been released after a new version was released?

I don't mind buying Vegas 9.0 32 bit, but I don't want to be strongarmed into buying it for updates that should have been released months ago (HMC-150 support for a few file variants).

Maybe the recent large restructuring at Sony will help speed up development. I just hope none of the recently laid off 16,000 workers (including some this week) were with SCS.

Has an update release for an old version...

Nope. Once a new version is released, there are no more updates for older ones.

I've never considered it being "strongarmed" as new version prices have always been very reasonable ($150 or less), especially if you own a previous version and do the upgrade within the first month of release.

Jeff- Could you clarify what you mean about HMC150 file support. What roadblocks are you hitting with it so far with Vegas?

Thanks.

I hope they release a 8.1 update as well...

I'd expect the invites to go out in the next week or so. We're still working with NAB on how *they* want the registration for the party to work so that we don't run into fire-marshal issues again.
