Vegas 9.0 - how can it take a H264 in a MPG cntr?

I have to archive some avi files and am actually using adobe premiere pro for this, cs3 with the mainconcept plugin. The condition being that Vegas must also be able to open the files.
I am producing h264s in a mpg container.
The plug in has many options.
Vegas won't open these.
My question is: is there anyway Vegas Studio 9 will accept any form of h264 in an mpg2 container , and if so can you give me a rough idea of the appropriate settings I should aim for?

thanks,
Ian

For standard 720x480 video, output an AVI with the DV codec.

For hi-def, a standard Main Concept MPEG2 at 1440x1080 anamorphic pixels (the equivalent of 1920x1080 square pixels).

There are other options, but these two will fit like a foot in a sock!

h264/AVC is MPEG-4 Part 10, the normal container is .mp4 and that is how Vegas expects to see it.
.mpg is not a standard container for h264.
