Vegas 9.0b build 66 crashes, HELP!

Hello,

I readily admit I am rather inept at Vegas and I rely on your good graces to rescue me from myself. I really only need Vegas for uploading videos to YouTube for my company and doing minor editing; but, I wanted to have the ability to learn and edit more as I went along so I didn't go for the free stuff.

I had 8.0 and everything worked pretty easily. I just opened a new project, found my file, double clicked on my video file, saved it in a downsized version so YouTube could take it and then uploaded it to YouTube. Life was good--notwithstanding I really didn't know what I was doing (still don't).

Then, I downloaded version 9.0b build 66 and all my trouble began. I have a Sony HD AVCHD Handycam camcorder that I use to film stuff at the shop. The camcorder files save as .mpg files in my computer.

When I "import media" and double click on one of my .mpg files, 9.0 gives me this message:

An error occurred during the current operation.
An Exception has occurred.

I can choose "OK" or "details."

If I choose "OK" 9.0 immediately shuts down.

If I choose "details," this is what I get.

I removed 9.0 and 8.0 and then loaded 8.0 again...but it will not recognize my serial number! (I bought this off the internet, so I don't have a CD).

This is maddening beyond description...though I realize it is probably my own fault.

Thanks for any help,

David

First this: I don't think you need to 'import' media. Just use Vegas' 'explorer window' to locate the video files, and drag them to the timeline. That should do it.

Second, for your Sony camera, make sure you install the software that came with the camera, even if you don't use it. It may install some of the drivers Vegas needs.

Third, VMS9 and VMS8 can be installed next to eachother, no need to uninstall VMS8. On this website (under 'my account<my software') you should find the serial numbers of VMS8.

Each programme has a unique serial number so make sure you use the respective numbers for vms8 and vms9. Don't mix them up.

David,
Welcome to the SONY CLUB OF V9.0b CRASHES..... I am trying unsuccessfully to get Sony to realize that this program and Vista do not mix. My story is a long one and my problems go back to my new pc running Vista and when I upgraded to V9 just for it. I was told by Sony I needed V9 with Vista, NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS SINCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't get through a project without screaming. At first I thought tech support knew what they were doing and I did what they told me, NOW I KNOW DIFFERENT, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
Two different pc people who know a lot about the machines and software have told me Sony should never tell a novice to go into the Registry and delete files. They are telling me to do this AGAIN.
The first time I did it and really messed up my pc, ended up having the HD wiped clean and started over. Now they are telling me to do it AGAIN !!!!!!

WHY CAN'T SONY REALIZE THERE ARE PROBLEMS BETWEEN V9.0 and VISTA...................................

I also have a brand new Sony HD camera and love the quality of photos, ease of operation and not having to buy and then store all those tapes. I had high hopes thing would work out as I have owned and used Sony hard/soft ware for years. This time I am giving up and going to another movie editing program.
I have downloaded a trial of Pinnacle 12 and so far so good. It is not as "fancy" as SVMS but there is an Ultra that does have more bells and whistles. Will complete the project in the trial program and see how things go before I purchase, this program was voted #1 in home video editing by PC Magazine. Good luck, my good luck ran out when I plunked down $80 for the upgrade to V9 and now can't get any satisfactory results from Sony. Linda
