Vegas 9.0c/d kept locking up (my solution)

I wondered if my external HD was the culprit in my lockups and and crashes using Vegas Pro 9.0c and d. On a whim, I moved everything over to my internal HD and didn't have any problems. To narrow things down, I began to look into some of the newer external (and internal) HD's power states (hibernation) and hot swap ability. There lay the key for me anyway. It seems that by turning off the swap ability and making sure there was no power saving, that cleared up my problems.

This is an excellent point. I use external USB drives for Vegas all the time, but they do sometimes take time to spin up and get going. Same same with some of my INTERNAL SATA drives that go to sleep in Win7. This is NOT Vegas causing the problem. I still use power saving options. My hard discs turn off after 20 min. of non-use and my monitor after 10 min. I use the "balanced" setting in Win7 but I NEVER let the computer go to SLEEP by itself as I believe this can STOP all long render. One other thing that has been mentioned before many times, in the Vegas Preferences, I UNCHECK "close media files when not the active application" -- If you don't UNCHECK this Vegas will sometimes take a long time to wake up after being minimized.

So far -- I have no issues with 9.0d in SD or AVCHD.
