Vegas 9.0c freezes

I'm not a complete neophyte, but I'm having problems figuring this one out.
Symptoms: Vegas will freeze for no apparent reason; no particular pattern. The mouse doesn't freeze, nor the OS [XP Pro]. So I'm guessing it's a Vegas issue?

Here's the error message:

Problem Description
Application Name: Vegas Pro
Application Version: Version 9.0c (Build 896)
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\aviplug\aviplug.dll
Fault Address: 0x03B07F01
Fault Offset: 0x00017F01

Fault Process Details
Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vegas90.exe
Process Version: Version 9.0c (Build 896)
Process Description: Vegas Pro
Process Image Date: 2009-10-26 (Mon Oct 26) 18:41:04

Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks for any help.
PB

Paul? I'm reading part of the error message and it is showing October 2009? Why post this now? There must be a reason? Something changed?

2009-10-26 is the creation date of Vegas90.exe

Ah! So: "Process Image Date: 2009-10-26 (Mon Oct 26) 18:41:04" - actually means the creation date for VP9c? Yes?

Grazie

I get occasional freezing of 9.0c too, but without any error message pop-ups. After a minute or so, then the Vegas again responds. I wonder if these things are related?

As a fix, try to revert to 9.0b. That at least "solved" my hang problem. This long-non-responsiviness is recognized by SCS (you can read about that in some posts) and will be fixed in the next release (9.0d?). Lets hope that is also brings you a fix. Now the big worry is: it seems that there is no release date scheduled for the 9.0d bug fix - which is needed rather sooner than later!!!

I´m also very tired of Vegas freezing now and then.
The most irritating is that you never know when it will freeze.
I can work for hours and just a minute - no sense.
There is one form of freezing that I can "trust" - everytime I open
customize in - render As - Vegas freezez for i minute - everytime.
This hazardus way of working drive me nuts.
I´ve now got used to save every minute of work to avoid too much
anger and I always look at the forumthreadtop if there is any 9.0d yet.

I don't even trust Vegas Pro 9.0c anymore---it's freezing every time I use it up to an hour... I'd use version 8.0c now. But the things I really need are in Version 9.0c. The light effects is slowing up workflow and Gigapixel is working slowly. Right now Vegas is at my tipping point the Pro TT is starting to flicker in version 8. 0c and 9.0c. I'd might convert back to Avid. Since their customer service have since improved under new management. And they are really trying to focus on not losing customers again. Also---they are really try to promote tutorial and training like Adobe Affects Effects and Final Cut Pro on learning their program. Tons of video examples on their websites.

Back in the day once you bought a Avid ... customer service was like---we are Avid we will get back to you when we have the time. But they lost so many customers back then. They can't afford to act that way anymore.

I hoped Vegas Pro 9.0d does the trick. I have my fingers cross.

Lots of people have problems with it freezing including me. Seems to be a 9c problem.

One thing you can check that MIGHT help in some hang situations, is to set the external firewire preview delay to zero, in the preview external prefs...

It seems to be an "intermediate" fix for some hangs... Even recognized as an "issue" by SCS to be releasedas a fix in the next release - aka 9.0d

Yes - I am checking the downloads department myself every day for d . . .
