Same way as in previous versions, U to ungroup. Make sure you have the audio event selected when you split or else Vegas will split every event at the cursor position, including the video that you've separated the audio from.

I'd give a low frequency high-pass EQ filter a try first. You could even keyframe it to be effective only during the thumps.

Also my client used a lavalier mic and I'm getting some low end thump sounds. What is the best way to post edit these?Izotope RX.

You can select each thump. It will show up as a bright spot at the bottom of the timeline display. Just select the bright spot, and then use the Replace function in Spectral Repair. It is absolute magic. The thump will be gone without any tell-tale artifact. You can make the audio pretty much perfect.

AHHH I had to unselect "ignore event grouping" now it allows me. Thank you.

When you said, "I'd give a low frequency high-pass EQ filter a try first. You could even keyframe it to be effective". Is this in my default EQ settings? Or is this an audio plug-in under track FX? If so what is the name?

Thank you,
Randini

"EQ filter" is built in in Vegas; find it in the normal effects selection.

"low frequency high-pass" is a way of using the EQ filter. High-pass means it drops everything below a certain frequency, and i suggest you use a low value for that frequency. So, if you were using graphic EQ you might drop the low end -24dB until you get to, oh, i dunno, maybe 150Hz, then bring it up to 0dB at 180Hz, and have the rest of the spectrum flat from there. That would get rid of low frequency thumps without affecting the majority of the vocal range.

I just tried this interesting Izotope RX demo but it does not allow me to save it so it is useless to hear if it works. I really dislike these trials that do this. This program is $350 and I can't afford that money to see if this works.

Trust me when I say that it does work.
Do a search on Izotope RX in this forum and you'll find a LOT of VERY satisfied users.

Great ty for your expertise advice. I will try to convince my client to purchase for me because the amount of time it takes to clean these up manually is not worth it for him.

Cheers,
Randini

and if you don't trust mike, you can trust me ;-)

i had a real problem with a mobile 'beeping' breaking into the audio on a single take. i was not only appalled that i didn't have a second take, but couldn't look the client in the face.....
