Vegas 9 on new project a joy.

I seem to go through this every time I upgrade to a new version of Vegas. I get the new version, load in my current project, have glitches and crashes everywhere, and decide the newest version isn't really ready yet.

Anyway, after much frustration, I shot a little video of my eight year old son and his friend on their Razer scooters, rendered to XDCAM and h264 for HD Youtube upload. What a difference. Everything worked like it should. The experience was totally different than when I loaded in V8 projects.

Maybe a general rule should be that when you get a new version of Vegas, keep using the old version on any current projects, and only use the new version on projects that can be done start to finish in the new version.

that's actually what I do, just to be safe. I think sometimes I would load up the old project in the new version to do a specific feature (like protype when I got 8), but besides that I keep them separate.

I also make a copy of my veg file & use that in the new version. Can never be to safe!

As a general rule I don't carry old projects over to new releases.... too much trouble.

Having said that, I can honestly say that I have had very little trouble with this new release. I've caught 2 minor bugs which I have reported (and they did reproduce), and the new preview needs more fine tuning, but overall I find it a success.

Sooo... no complaints here.

The two new projects I've done so far on V9 have also been very pleasant. I just finished one of my staple types of projects, a DV multicam concert, using both Ultimate S and Excallibur. 1 hour edited dvd. No issues, except improvements, the preview is just better with V9.

Caveat, I found that I was having preview issues, so frame rates and all, when I had my settings for ram preview set to 1024 mb of ram, I had to lower the number to 128 or 512 or so and that cleared up the problem. In 8, I used to be able to have full playback with 1024 of ram allocated to ram preview but not anymore. Even in Vista 64, I have 8 gigs of ram, still effects preview when ram preview memory is set to 1024.

people tend to TOTALLY misunderstand what this setting is all about. As a result it gets set too high which steals ram from where Vegas really needs it.
