Vegas 9 Pro Video capture troubles

Is anyone else having troubles with HDV video capture using Vegas 9.0?

I shot some videos using a HV20 camcorder; when I try to capture the video vegas sees the device and is able to control it, but when I hit record the video is not captured.

Everything appears to be working fine, but for some reason the video is not transferred to my computer. The video capture utility says it’s recording but nothing is happening.

do you have ver 8 by any chance to check it out?

Are you using Vista 64 by chance? I have not been able to capture a single frame of HDV video on my Vista 64 computer. Symptoms are exactly the same as you describe.

I get around this by capturing with an old XP computer (which is now the family computer in the recreation room). It is an absolute PITA.

This is not related to Vegas 9 by the way. I can't capture HDV on the Vista 64 computer with Vegas 8, Adobe, Roxio, Nero, HDVSplit, etc. either. In all cases the symptoms are the same: transport works, but no video is passed. I believe that the problem is at the driver level, and am suspicious that there simply isn't a driver for HDV capture on my Vista 64 computer.

Standard definition DV capture works just fine.

I have also tried this on vegas 8.1 (Vista 64bit OS) and the same thing occurs.

I have a new PC that has integrated firewire, apparently the firewire port has issues with Vista 64 or is simply not compatible with the Via OHCI compliant IEE 1394 on my motherboard.

When I connected it to my PCI Firewire card it works fine.

Maybe a laptop firewire card would fix my problem. Hmmm.

I just found http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/162/869563this[/link] thread which pointed me to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927827/en-usthis[/link] Microsoft web page. The Microsoft link wasn't all that useful to me because a search of my registry didn't find the appropriate entry, but I believe I am on the right course now.

In my experience, with version 8 I could not (nor could anyone else) capture HDV from a Canon XH-A1, my HV20 (30) worked fine.
In version 9, both cameras capture very smoothly, no problems at all.
