Vegas 9c hangs when nesting projects

I make a new, blank project.
I import a VEG file and Vegas shows the render dialog box, and soon it has rendered 100%. However, it will not close. Pressing the Cancel buttons changes the text to Canceled by user, but the box will not close.
I have to kill Vegas using task manager. Have tried it many times. The imported project runs just fine on its own.
Any help appreciated. I am dependent on this. And it sure worked before..
Applies both to 32 and 64 bit Vegas 9c. OS: Vista 64. 8Gb RAM.

I have narrowed down the problem:
It occurs when the source VEG project has audio. No audio in the imported project - no problem. I will investigate further. Have you experienced this?

Update: It has nothing to do with nested projects
It is the Render hangs at 100% error.. again.. I will post a new thread
