Vegas 16 - Vegas Advance Save Utility

I've search far and wide but have not been able to find the answers to these questions online, in the manual, in the help section, or on these forums. This isn't really scripting but wasn't sure what else it would be. Feel free to answer as many or none of the question as you please. I hope other people can benefit from these answers as well. Thank you for your time.

  1. What is the benefit of live save? I believe it's to save between every click, but why is that worth the performance trade off?
  2. Why are there two Back Up interval sections (min and hour) and is there a benefit in using both interval method?
  3. What does Archive Daily Backups do? It's set to 14 but 14 what?
  4. What does Archive real time back ups do? Is it related to live save or to the backups interval?
  5. What is the difference between Critical Backups and Minor Backups

I know I asked all these question 2 days ago, but I will do my best to answer some of these question with my own experiences, research and ideas. These are by no means official responses. Please feel free to correct me or prove me wrong.

  1. I think live save might be a step toward live synchronization and allowing multiple users to work in the same Vegas file in real time in the same way users all work in the same Google Docs file. (This is not fact, just a hunch)

  2. I think you only need to use 1 of the backup intervals settings. (not sure why anyone would only want backup every hour or 2 hours though). I think there is no benefit to using both or even the hourly setting.

  3. No idea - Maybe (when set to 14) it only keeps Backups going back 14 days? or only saves the last 14 backup files then deletes the oldest backup file to make space?

  4. No idea - Have not used it yet, but maybe it creates a backup between every click? Not sure what the number would be referring to though (see #3)

  5. I think Minor Backups are the backups created per backup interval setting while Critical Backups are created during a crash or maybe the most recent Minor Backup before the crash.

1. To me "Live Save" is useful when either doing very precise adjustments which aren't easy to recreate or when doing a lot of editing steps in a short period of time.

2. The maximum value you could use for the minutes of a backup intervall is 30, so for longer intervalls you need an hour setting.

3. The maximum number of daily backups defines the number of project files which will be kept for a single day. Once you reached the maximum, the oldest backup files of that day will be deleted so you would not exceed the maximum.

4. "Live Save" means Vegas Pro automatically presses the "Save" button each time you do something in your project, so it will always save same project file anew.
"Archive Real Time Backup" automatically uses the "Save as" button each time you do something in your project, so it will create new project files (each with its own name) for each of your actions.

Don't know what you mean by "Critical Backups" and "Minor Backups" as I use the German localized version and there is no such a name (not even a similar one) in that window. Could you show a screenshot of it?

In the Advanced Save Utility, if you click Restore you will see all the back up files along with their backup type. Right now they all say minor backup because I was last testing Backup interval at 1 min. But sometimes I see Critical Backup as a type. I'm guessing that critical backup are created when the program crashes but I'm not certain. Also, I believe they save in a folder called MajorBackups

Thanks, even same name (almost: "Minor" and "Critical") in the German localized version. But I don't know what the difference is. I have one "Critical Backup" without a crash had happened.

It looks like a "Critical Backup" file is created each time you start a new Vegas Pro session (and have done something in it) and each time you close a session while having done something in the project which is not yet saved in the last minor backup.
