I would like to import some ac3 files directly into vegas, but when I try to import them they are not a supported file type. I when to all files under the import menu but when I attempt to open and ac3 file it says it is not a supported type. I have vegas + dvd and I can export ac3. BUt what is the point of being able to export them when I can only import them into dvd architect?

I've tried this as well, and it doesn't seem to be supported by Vegas. I'd imagine that AC3 files are a bit of a pain to handle from the editing aspect. Generally AC3 is going to be your final product, not your source that you want to edit so I'm not really surprised that Vegas can't do this.

Go to: http://dspguru.notrace.dk/ or http://dspguru.doom9.net and pick up a copy of BeSweet along with the GUI interface available - you can then convert your AC3 file into either a stereo WAV file, or if you really have 5.1 in the AC3 you can get 6 WAV files reflecting each individual channel.

These can then be easily taken into Vegas.

But old SoFO product like Soft Encode (released in 1999) was able to import/export ac3 5.1
