Vegas and FinalCut Pro compatible files

We have an digitizing system that can capture in just about any format. Does anybody know of a file format that we could capture in that would let us edit the file natively in either Vegas or Final cut pro. We don't want to have to transcode or render out a different file format for either system.

Maybe a quicktime upcompressed?
Is there a DV format that is universal to both systems?

This is for many hours of different type of tape to be archived digitally with very little editing. Will be outputting two types of digital 720x480 files.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Latest FCP will read the same AVIs that Vegas reads, Vegas will read all the QTs that come out of FCP.

We tried the AVI DV and that worked this am on FCP.
The AVI uncompressed had a problem with the video, but so did Vegas. Windows media player played it, so am not sure what I did wrong or different. No error, just no video showing in FCP or Vegas.

Will try again as we have used the uncompressed AVI's from the encoder in Vegas before with no problems.

Probably operator error on the uncompressed.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

The only thing I can add about uncompressed is that it requires a lot of disk throughput to play it reliably.

Best bit of advice, test!

Apart from uncompressed there's also the BMD codecs which SHOULD be interchangeable although I've had an issue with only black frames turning up on the Mac.

Hmm. I thought I had replied to this thread once before saying "Test!". Ah well. I was thinking it.

The best DPs I know do lots and lots of testing.
