Vegas and hardware

What multitrack boards are being used in this Beta
program? I just had a full system crash...actually many
until the final blue kiss of death brought my system down
to the ground...yes new HD and fresh Win 95C
installed...just so I can try to salvage files and apps
later on from the original drive. This happened with a
simple Vegas playback with a SoundScape Mixtreme...after
about 6 system freezes, major file corruption occured and
well you know how the rest goes. It would help me
ascertain if the Mixtreme hardware is bad or they have bad
drivers and if you're experiencing any instability with it,
as I understand from SoundScape that you have one. Without
getting into too much finger pointing, I'd like to rest my
mind and solve this issue. I'd also like to know which
boards athat provide digital I/O are working in your
tests. Vegas and Mixtreme has great potential together,
but instability is unacceptable...thanks in advance.

It sounds familiar to me. It happened with a chess game that were based on DirectX 5.1. I just then downloaded the new drivers for my soundcard, and everything were fine. Perhaps you need updated drivers for your board that are validated for DirectX 6.X and Direct Media Runtime 6.X.

You do have DirectX 6.X and Direct Media Runtime 6.X installed on your system, don't you?

Yes I'm running the latest MS/Sonic Foundry DX 6.x. On my list of possible causes is that the Mixtreme drivers don't work with 6.x...or that it's just a bad card. I'm trying to get Soundscape's latest response to try to lick this problem. I'd also like SF's response, which I've not gotten so far...I reallly want this to work!

Dear Wilson.

Having DirectX and DirectMedia Runtime installed is only half of the problem.

The other (and perhaps most important) is having the right drivers for your
hardware.

Since the development of DirectX by Microsoft, all hardware vendors had to re-
write their drivers in order to make them compatible with the new
specification. So, Soundscape has to have the new, validated drivers for
DirectX 6.X, just because it is of their responsibility.

In fact, the software realtime mixing function is part of DirectX, that is a
layer between the software and the hardware, so if they don't, that layer will
not be able to actually communicate with the soundcard while the software is
still sending info to DirectX and then your system will crash.

So, all you have to do is get the updated drivers for your soundcard. Also, if
the drivers are validated for DirectX 5.X and you have DirectX 6.X, things
won't improve so much. They have to be validated for the DirectX version that
you actually have, and life will be easier and beautiful.

Hope it helps.

Lucky session!
