Okay, here's a question I never thought I'd have to ask.
Can Vegas ingest HDCAM footage via an HDSDI connection? Further what kind of codec does it use (assuming it can) to store the footage on the hard drive?
I haven't done this, only SD via SDI, you get a choice of two codecs, the BMD 2YUV or Sony's YUV codec. That's the easy part!
You'll need a LARGE SCSI array to keep up, I'd originally asked for a drive system in my new monster that'd handle HDCAM but the extra $10K put a bit of a downer on those plans.
Do you need to output to a HiDef format?
If not then just beg, borrow, hire or steal a Sony JH3 deck, that'll let you ingest as DV via 1394.
Now even if you're planning on a HDCAM output you can take your nice Vegas project to someone with a Sony Xpri setup for HDCAM and suck your project into that and conform the whole show.
Other alternative is to export an EDL an conform on a HD Avid system but you'll loose all your FXs.
Hope this helps and try to stay sane!
Bob.
