Vegas and QT reference .mov with Media 100 files

Has anyone tried (and had any luck with) getting Vegas Video to read a QuickTime reference movie which points to native iFinish (Media 100) files (ie .M1QA and .M1QV files)?

I have the iFinish hardware/software on my PC with Vegas, so the codecs are there and the QuickTime player quite happily opens the movies without iFinish being open.

Given the same reference movie, Vegas correctly identifies the video and audio properties and even manages to open the audio part of the file but the video is blank.

This strikes me as odd because if Vegas can open the audio then clearly it understands the QT ref movie and can locate the movie elements - but it can't understand the video even though QuickTime Player can.

Any ideas, anyone?

(NB This is on a Compaq SP750 with Windows 2000 Professional)

Can you open a QT file that is not a reference movie?
We don't support hinted movies inside the QT wrapper, but a straight QT file should work if the codec isn't completely tied to the hardware.

Yes I can - if I open the ref movie in QT (or in iFinish) and export as a 'normal' .mov either uncompressed or using a standard codec that Vegas can use, then Vegas sees it with no problems.

So it puzzles me that Vegas can understand where the iFinish audio file is (and how to read it) in the ref movie but not the video element.

True, the iFinish codec *is* proprietary but not only do I have the iFinish hardware in the same PC as Vegas but I also have their 'Windows NT read-only decoder' driver which lets non-iFinish hardware read iFinish .movs

Puzzling huh - but it would be *so* useful if I could read the files directly in Vegas instead of having to go through the painfully slow process of exporting them as uncompressed QT movies.

Vegas is much better than iFinish at certain tasks hence my requirement to shuffle files between the two.

Dave

I too want to use exported Media100 Ref files in Vegas Video but have encountered the same issues. Does anyone know if there is a resoltion to this as it was posted back in April 2001. I have the Vegas Video 4.0.

If you have an ftp site or can send a tiny clip to drdropout@sonicfoundry.com, I'll take a look at it. If the codecs are available online, I'd appreciate a link to those. I'm betting there's a way to get these files to open, but the reference movie aspect of it might be a problem. Straight up QT should work though.
