Vegas and SoundForge vs. Cool Edit Pro 2

I was wondering if anyone out there has had a chance to use Vegas and Sound Forge 6, and also Cool Edit Pro 2. I've been looking at the demo of Cool Edit Pro 2 which looks very cool and the beta version of Sound Forge 6. It will cost me the same amount to upgrade to either of the new versions, so I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on the major differences. I don't do extensive sound recording, but I do often have the need for the noise reduction feature, which both Cool Edit Pro 2 and Sound Forge 6 w/noise reduction plug in packages have.

Therefore, can anyone sum up benefits between one or the other? I do like the Cool Edit Pro feature of switching from multitrack to edit window instantly. Of course most of the time I'll be multitracking in Vegas, but occasionally I get the chance to do audio only projects.

Thanks for any input or insights you guys may have.

Hi jbjones,

when I want to do just audio I only use nuendo. In the future it will be Cubase SX, ´cause it is nuendo in a different cloth. It is the only multitracker I know which can punch in and out at ease, and I want to use a DAW as a multitrack machine when i´m working with musicians and speakers.
I used Cool Edit once (in the early days) and found it very unhandy. Sound Forge is cool for mastering, but the same is true for Wavelab, which has also a montage window for simple multitracking (sorry Sonic).
But why don´t you use VV3 for mastering and multitracking? Although I´m new to VV3 I can´t see a reason why you don´t want to use it for these purposes. It has all abilities, but you have to buy some directX plugs for special jobs.
If you are just interested in denoising, there are specialized standalone softwares around.
