Vegas and Text

I've been working on my first Text project in Vegas and have been getting a little frustrated so I'll ask a few questions.

1. Can the track faders be automated to increase or decrease in different sections of the video or do I have to insert envelopes to achieve this?
2. I've been able to get some neat effects with the text starting out very small in the center of the screen and then increasing in size to get that coming at you effect but it's not smooth, its a little choppy even after rendering.
3. Am I barking up the wrong tree here with Vegas and is there a better and EASIER program for elaborate text creation and movement that interfaces well with Vegas? I'm thinking Boris or Lightwaves.
4. I've played with the free version of Boris that came with Vegas but I can't figure out how to get the boris file into vegas ?
5. Like everyone else I'd like to achieve those CNN, ABC news transitions with spotlights backround media, picture in picture etc on a budget? Is this doable?

Most of the work I do with Vegas involves combining text and video for announcements that loop in the sanctuary before service. In my opinion Bluff Titler is better then Boris and has a easier learning curve. I create the text and text effects then export as avi with transparency. Drop that on the time line and I am ready to go! I create 5 to 7 minutes worth of video announcements each week.

I agree with RevJongG. Recently got Bluff and using it more and more - it's fast and easy to learn and export into Vegas.
