Vegas and the Laptop

Hello, I am also new here (so forgive me if this has been answered already) I am running Vegas Audio 2.0 on a Dell laptop, here is the run down on my system:

Dell Inspiron 8100
PIII 1.2 MHz
512 MB of Ram
30Gig drive
ESS Maestro PCI Audio (WDM)
Radeon 7500 Video Card with 64 KB RAM
2 USB Ports
1 Firewire Port

I do audio playback for T.V. and Film, most of the time the playback has been recorded for me but sometimes I have to do it my self. I have come across some situations that I need more than 2 out going tracks playing at one time, i.e. track one has music, track two has a prerecorded phone call and track 3 has the master timecode for syncing it all up. I bought the EMagic 2I6 USB audio box and found that it “stalled” on me during playback and would ruin a take also, after I called them, they told me that Vegas Audio does not support more then 2 out going tracks.
I am in the market for an external sound device that will let me come out of either my USB or Firewire ports and will support 4 or more out going tracks. Inputs do not really affect me, it can be only two.
I would love to switch to a desktop system but limited space restricts me.
There are a couple of products that I have been looking into, Echo Layla24 LAPTOP and Mona LAPTOP at http://www.echoaudio.com/ and the Digigram VXpocket 440 and VXpocket v2 at http://www.digigram.com/.

Please let me know your thoughts and comments

oh btw, should I upgrade to Vegas Video 3.0 from Vegas Audio 2.0

I've got the VX Pocket 2 card. It works really well with Vegas. Never had any problems with that. Only thing is, if you're recording in 24bit mode, you won't be able to record too many tracks to a laptop's onboard drive. I'm lucky if it'll playback 8 24bit tracks on my 750mhz PIII Gateway machine.

have about your setup. (HDD speed/size, OS, monitoring method, headphones).

Thanks
