Vegas, BeatMatching, Mixing...

Hello all...I'm moving from doing my mixes with and an 8track to the computer.
A lot of the radio jocks around here swear by Vegas so I downloaded the trial and gave it a shot. I threw a Lloyd Banks Track in and next a Dilated peoples track. Went into Dilated Peoples track and went to Properties and messed around with the streching by typing in the Value. It took me about 15 minutes to get these two tracks perfectly in sync. Is there and easier way of doing this?? I could have loaded in one track, recorded the 2nd in from the turntable at matching speed and had it lined up in 2 minutes... What am I missing here??? It seems so tedious that I must not be doing things right?? Please Help!!

I think i would simply Ctrl-stretch the end of the next song instead of mucking about with the properties settings. This way you can adjust it on the fly while it's playing back. Ctrl-dragging the end of the song to the left will speed it up and to the right will slow it down. Once you've got the speed right you can slide the whole song left or right to align it with the previous song.

Vegas' default behavior is to preserve the pitch when changing the speed. This works nicely up to about 5 or 10%. Beyond that it can cause lots of unwanted artifacts. You can go into properties and change it to "change pitch and length" and then it will raise or lower the pitch as well, exactly like the speed control on a turntable.

Thanx for the input. I didn't see that option when I was scouring the manuals. I'll give it a try and let u know how it goes
