Vegas behaving weardly. what on PC do I check for?

I'm currently having lots of problem editing in Vegas & I think the problem isn't Vegas but rather something else. For instance when I right click to drag an event to another position so that I can shuffle the events everything near my cursor seems to flash & would appear to be trying to opening other options. When I get the clip to where I want it & release the right button click to get the menu from which I select shuffle events I can get a 10 second delay before this window opens, then when it finally does open it's apt to disappear before I enter my selection.

I thought my machine might be running slow so I opened XP's Windows Task Manager selected processes but Vegas is sitting idle until I try to drag an item. My anti virus software is always up to date & a full system scan suggests that I haven't any problems. Any ideas as to what I should check next?

Start by downloading a free demo of Iolo's System Mechanic. www.iolo.com is where you'll find it.
Antivirus should be disabled while editing video.
What's your memory looking like? With the System Mechanic, you can check your RAM and defrag it.

I'm running XP on a Pentium 4 2Gb. I have 1GB RAM. with Vegas telling me I have 895 MB free for RAM renders & I have it set at 400MB. I only have about 4GB, about 4% free on currect drive. I could transfer entire project to another empty drive if it's likely to help.

I'll also try downloading the suggested program from www.iolo.com.

Ahhh.....there is another clue. If you are working with only 4% free, that also suggests part of the problem, depending on how your swap files are set up, and what sizes of files you're trying to load.
I'd definitely be considering moving the project to the other drive, and then defragging your 4 gig drive.
