Vegas Bombs with PC105, But Premier Pro Works??!!!

Trying to print to tape. Sony PC105. Vegas records maybe 7 seconds, the 10 seconds of nothing, 5 more seconds of movie, nothing, movie, etc.

Now it works fine with a JVC DV300...could it be the camera?

No!!! Not wanting to unpack the JVC (it sits in a case with matte box, filters, mics, etc.) I tried Premier Pro. And it worked. Without a problem.

Further, during preview, Vegas doesn't seem to output sound. But Premier Pro did. And although Vegas has those very nice regions, Premier Pro has "duplicate clips" that show up in the directory and multiple sequences that make it easier to manage large and even mid-size projects.

Please tell me I am wrong and just have Vegas incorrectly configured. Please...

On the preview issue... Vegas does not preview audio out through the firewire. That is not a bug... it is just the way it works. You need to listen to the audio via your speakers when previewing. Preview is basically optimized for checking accuracy of color and frame positioning.

Can't comment on your preference for having these "duplicate clips" hanging around and why that makes it easier for you to "manage" stuff.

Premiere doesn't preview out from firewire either, unless the clip is rendered out. It's not a Vegas thing, it's a 1394 thing.
Vegas doesn't make dupe or reference clips. That's a feature some have asked for, and others don't want.
Can't comment on why the camera captured with PP and not with Vegas, the possibilities are myriad.

What Liam_Vegas said about Vegas and audio during preview is correct, what Spot said it correct as well...but I think to be clear - what DavidNJ mentioned is that during preview no sound comes out via firewire, but with Premiere it does. So my first thought is that he is working with a "Mini-DV" project and all media is the same. In that case than Spot is wrong because Premiere does indeed preview out via firewire, with audio. However, second, even if you have effects on the video track, or other formated media, preview and/or playback from the Premiere timline the audio will still be sent out via firewire, converting on the fly. In other words say I drop a series of stills on the video track with MP3 on the audio track and I hit the 'play' button...I will get no visual but I will get audio out via firewire. I need to render first in order to preview the complete package, but when I do I can do so from the timeline without a PTT....with audio. Vegas, on the other hand, will only send audio out via firewire when you do a PTT...no matter what the format. Vegas can get 'real time' video preview via firewire if you have the 'recompress frames' option on and a fast CPU with lots of RAM....your milage may vary.

As for the cvamera and a PPT - not sure because, as Spot said, "the possibilities are myriad." Someone recently posted about a 'copy inhibit' problem, perhaps it is something like that.

Why would VV have skips printing to tape on? Iit is a new Sony camera. And PP works?

But thanks for all the help...I love VV...and I expect V5 will move it ahead on the issues. But Sony camera thing is a real problem for me right now.
