Vegas Box

With all of the issues that have been reported about Vegas having problems with some systems and none at all with others I think it might be a great idea if there were specific recommended system (Vegas Box) designs for Vegas.

There seems to be certain system configurations that are rock solid with Vegas, assuming no defective parts such as a bad ram stick or whatever and there are certain system configurations that just plain don't seem to work no matter how hard one tries. Of course there are those systems that are anywhere in between.

So if there could be specific recommended systems from the low end to the ultimate end I think that would help a lot with some of the issues that many are having.

There would be the 'Basic Box' for those who are on a tight budget, a 'Standard Box' for those who can afford a bit more, a 'High End Box' for those who need the horsepower and an 'Ultimate Box' for those who need the absolute maximum.

It would be so nice if Vegas can be such as to be 100% on all of the PC systems out there but because there are so many different configurations it is virtually impossible for the programmers to cover them all and not spend tons of development time and expense trying to do so.

So, if there is what would be called a Vegas Box which would be in a number of different levels then it would seem to be possible to significantly reduce the problems some are having with Vegas.

Note: Even if one didn't have a Vegas Box at least they can modify their system to be as close as possible so as to get the best results.

Anyway, just rattling off an idea.

What do you all think?

A more fruitful exercise is to consider those who say they're not having problems. When you do a bit of digging you discover things like:

a) They've never installed V8.
b) They're not editing HDV.
c) They don't check their rendered output frame by frame.
d) They don't have longform projects with 100s of tracks and 1,000s of clips.
e) They ignore the fact that the same project has been load by multiple people onto multiple systems and it still fails to render.
f) They employ one or more work arounds for basic tasks like capturing video.

I'd also recommend reading the release notes for 8.0c. Note the number of times the word "crash" appears and yet there was ever so many wise people who would assert there was nothing wrong with 8.0b!
I'd also point out that as Vegas doesn't use the GPU there isn't that many variables between systems. Even the video drivers aren't being taxed like they are with gaming. Come to think of I don't recall many bug fixes that were hardware specific at all that relate to crashes.

Now I could say I've not had any signifcant Vegas problems.
The only caveats I'd have to add is "editing XDCAM EX" and "I only capture HDV using an expensive VCR". Others editing XDCAM HD also seem to have no problems. Possible additional caveat is limiting the number of tracks and clips or else using Cineform codecs. If that was the minimum hardware suggestion for a reliable HD editing experience with V8.0 I think this board would light up with howls of protest.

Not to say that dodgy hardware isn't the cause of a percentage of problems. This is a given for any program and OS. However there's plenty of ways to diagnose those problems.
