Vegas can't see cams in VCR/Play mode

Anyone have any ideas? All of a sudden Vegas can't see any camcorders in VCR/Play mode (so I can't capture taped video). Vegas works fine in Record mode, I can capture live video.

Notes:
* Windows XP/SP2 sees the camcorder when I turn it on, it gives me the ding, list of options, and shows up in My Computer. But when I go to Vegas I just get "Device Not Available".

* WIndows Movie Maker works, but I'm trying to capture HDV.

Are you using the right capture program? (Vegas comes with 2 capture programs... one for DV and one for HDV)

I double-checked. All my HDV capture programs cannot see any camcorders in VCR/Play mode (Vegas internal HDV capture AND Cineform HDLink).

The regular DV capture program are working fine (Sony external vidcap program and Movie Maker.)

Is your camera's firewire output set to HDV? If the DV capture sees it then your camera is in DV mode. You must place it in HDV mode to capture HDV. Check that this is the case.

Ok thanks that did it! I turned off the HDV - DV downconvert which was ON.

Note:
I had to physically unplug the firewire port on my XH A1 to enable access to change this feature. Initially I had tried to change it but thought it wasn't available, but that was with the firewire cable is plugged in.
