Vegas Capture Error & Crash! Thanks!!

Austin wrote on 12/13/2007, 6:45 PM
Every time I click stop and and the current capture, I get the error that I listed in detail below. I am running XP, Vegas 8.0 with Video Capture 6.0, 3gb ram, 3.4ghz processor. That may be unnessisary info but I thought I'd throw it in just in case.
After i close the error details box, windows pops up with "VidCap60.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

I am able to go to the capture folder on my computer, though, and grab the video, but it never has audio, no matter what I do.

I am using a pinnacle dc10 capture card and noticed that Windows Movie Maker cannot capture anything from the card at all, and prevents me from getting into the video capture window.

The Sony Error details and Windows VidCap error are listed below:

Thanks!!!!!

Almost certainly this is caused by using the Pinnacle DC10 card - Vegas is designed to capture DV via standard OHCI firewire connections - such cards are very cheap these days.

Firewire is deff the way to go, but I also must be able to capture via RCA inputs. If I get a new decent PCI capture card with RCA plugs do you think my problem may be solved? The pinnacle card is, well, from pinnacle, which makes me weary, as well as several years old.

The DC10 was designed specifically to work with Premiere (I stll have a DC30+ somewhere), not Vegas.
To capture analogue such as VHS, you need a pass through device to convert to digital. This can be a DV or Digital 8 camera or a conversion device such as the Canopus ADVC110.or ADVC300.
Austin wrote on 12/13/2007, 7:53 PM
Are there any cheaper alternatives to the conversion box? It looks like the perfect solution, but I'm cheap and was hoping to shell out under $100.

Find an older camera with a pass through option. The rest of the camera doesn't have to work (recording, tape mechanism, etc.) just make sure it powers on and the pass through works. That should be all you need. Take a look on ebay.

Yes - maybe an old Digital 8 - you should be able to get them cheap - just sold mine for $100 on the danish "ebay".

Would the DV / Digital 8 camcorder need to have A/V input? If so can you recommend a good camera for this?

Thanks!
