Vegas conflicts w/Pro Tools?

I'm up for a freelance gig doing audio imaging for a satellite radio channel. The rub is that they don't want me to use Vegas. :~$ It's good enough for my demo package, but NOOO! I have to use ProTools. My system is pretty stable with Vegas and I don't want to screw everything up. I'm thinking of acquiring one of DD's non-PCI hardware interfaces, since I can't use my bloody Echo with PT. Fascists.

Please post any of your experiences with running both on the same system. Is there any hope of not becoming miserable with conflicts?

You could insist that they at least check out how Vegas is BETTER than PT !

I've been running Vegas 6 with a Digi 002R and Sonica Laptop for the last few weeks using the Digi ASIO driver and the couple of projects that I've used it on it's operated very smoothly. I've found Vegas actually safer to use that PT LE 7.x because of the occasional buffer underrun prob w/duocores that PTLE is experiencing. If you minimize the LE gui while recording, PT LE will drop out of record..........I couldn't get any response on the DUC, so I bought a copy of Vegas for the laptop and it's been great so far. I haven't yet had the chance to do an intensive mix, but afa tracking, it's been fine.

I've been running a 002R with Vegas on the same system since April 05.
There aren't any conflicts other than you can't run both at the same time because PT is just so system intensive neither would work and of course only one application can access the 002R at the same time.

With the PT ASIO drivers I can use the 002R as the audio hardware for Vegas and, as I don't have another audio interface, that's benefit.

Vegas will do a whole lot more with less system resources than ProTools and as 'adowrx' indicated PT 7 can easily run into buffer under runs depending on the processing power of your system and the amount of RAM you have.

But other than your concerns about why they insist on PT over Vegas I don't think you'll find having both on your system creates problems beyond your possible dislike of PT.

Can I suggest you look at getting EDL Convert from Cui Bono Soft as it will convert sessions between PT, Vegas, Audio, OMF and other formats.

Great software at about $299.00 US.

And I hear you Geoff, I'd rather do my work in Vegas, but PT is what "everyone else" in their organization uses, whatever that's worth to the listeners. They want to be able to recycle content between producers. So, if I want the gig, those are the rules.
