Vegas crash: AllocateMixBuffer !?

Vegas 6d crashed on me at 8.5 hours into a 14 hour render. I've got a deadline and this is going to be a big problem if it happens agains so I need to fix it. But I have no clue what's causing it; have you seen anything like this?

I am rendering a 2-camera edit from 2 HDV-I files to a third HDV-I file. The error seems to have something to do with sound (?) Given that I was rendering, not playing back, why would the Microsoft Sound Mapper even be involved?

Sony Vegas 6.0

! An error occurred while creating the media file SpMig-Edit3NR.avi.
The reason for the error could not be determined.
