Vegas crashes on launch

JohanAlthoff wrote on 2/6/2003, 10:58 AM
OK, I download the Vegas 4.0 upgrade (which is probably just the same as the stand-alone / demo version), install and launch. Crash.

I uninstall any suspicious Direct-X plugins, still crash. I uninstall, manually clean the registry, reinstall. Crash on launch. All anti-virus software has been disabled all the time. This never happened with the beta.

Now, I check the registry for differences between the 4.0 beta and the final version. It would seem Vegas only detects the Microsoft Sound Mapper, while the beta got both the sound mapper, my Audigy and the M-audio Audiophile. My guess is that something's screwed up with the ASIO layer, most probably the Creative ASIO. Can someone verify this bug?

What version of Windows?
Uninstall the beta and the demo completely and wipe out the registry for the beta and release key in the registry.

Do you get any error dialog? Does it have any information you could send?

If you are running XP, you could try installing Dr Watson to capture the crash.

From your Start | Run, type

drwtsn32 -i

This will install the crash dump tool.

When you crash, you can then run

drwtsn32

from the Start | Run command.

This will generate a log that you can then send us at

Vegas4Beta@sonicfoundry.com

Thanks
Peter

OK, sent the logfile. Hope it can clear something up. I killed all non-essential processes before launch, to get as clean a system as possible.

BTW, nice to see you're still around, Peter. I fondly remember the Victor Vergara era on this forum a couple of years ago =)

For the benifit of the forum.

It appears that the Emagic Logic USB dongle and Vegas 4 don't play well together. Johan's problems were solved by removing the dongle.

Early investigations reveal that it may have something to do with DirectInput, though this is currently a guess. For those that are not aware, you can use a joystick to control the Surround panner in Vegas. This uses DirectInput.

We are contacting Emagic to get this resolved.

Thanks,
Peter
