vegas crashes on video import

Trying to use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0b... On attempting to import *.mp4 video files into the project media the program crashes and gives the error below.
I'm running vista 64bit which is 'supported' but I am not having any luck so far. Anyone got any suggestions/fixes?

Ok, VMS 9.
File properties as reported by MediaInfo?
Camera make and model?
Quicktime version?
Are you able to upload an original file to Mediafire so we can look at it?

No need to send anything. Your files are MP4 h.264, and so EVERYTHING we said here http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=738911&Replies=46 applies to you as well. Please read the whole thread, especially my longest reply in that thread.

Well I did try all the different codecs and conversion programs but didn't get anywhere as I had constant errors with what ever i tried when converting them...
But I found the thread very informative and enjoyed reading your site.
I contacted Sony support and they admitted a problem with that format and upgraded me to Vegas 10HD plat. for free! Yea! go Sony. Problem solved.
