Vegas crashes when opening previous file

fishkid wrote on 4/2/2001, 2:58 PM
Hello All,

When starting up Vegas (2.0c) with "open last used file"
setting enabled under preferences/general the program
crashes with an error messaging referring to msvcrt40.dll.
If I start it again it's okay but won't open last used
file, it just starts with a blank project.

I have to disable "open last file used" option to prevent
the crashes. A file version issue? Any ideas or fixes?
Thanks for you help.

Are there Waves plug-ins used in the crashing file? We
fixed a bug in this area with Vegas 2.0d, which you are
encouraged to download.

No, I don't use any of the Waves plugins.
I have downloaded the update and will see what results.
Thanks.

Hello,

So updated to 2.0d but the same behavior occurs.

When I enable the following:
Options/Preferences/General/Automatically "Open last
project on startup"

I get this when restarting the app:
Sonic Foundry Vegas Audio
Version 2.0d (Build 384)
Exception 0xC000008E (float divide by zero) IP:0x7802C23E
In Module 'MSVCRT.DLL' at Address 0x78000000 + 0x2C23E
Thread: GUI ID=0xFFE0FE49 Stack=0xB9E000-0xBB0000
(spared you the memory dump, unless you need it)

Click OK and I get this:
Vegas has caused an error in VEGASK.DLL

Click OK and the app closes, never opening the file.
Restart the app and it opens with blank project, open the
file from the most recently used list, no problem. As soon
as I enable that option though and restart same behavior.
Next suggestion?
Thanks.

Is this with any project? Or is it a particular project
that is loaded that crashes the app?

I've tried it with 3 different project files, same result.

I recently upgraded to full version of Vegas, but LE was
doing same thing. I also have Sound Forge 5.0 and it opens
previous files with no issues

The files are composed of tracks I've recorded from my VS
1680 via S/Pdif connection on Layla 24. They are at 24/96.
They have the default track efx of, gate, eq, compressor
and I've added some reverb to each track as well. Two of
the files have 8 tracks and one has 12. I have customized
the default temp directory and the files and the audio are
stored together on a separate drive from Vegas. I use the
Layla's S/Pdif as default recorder and the Analog 1/2 as
the default playback.

My current environment:
Hardware;
1 20gb Maxtor hd for OS and apps
2 30gb IBM hd in raid 0 array on Promise controller for
audio/video files
800E processor
512 mb ram
ATI Radeon All in Wonder
Linksys 10/100 NIC
Pyro Firewire card for DV
Plextor CD-RW
Toshiba DVD
SB Live Platinum
Layla 24
ASUS CUSL2 mobo

Software:
WinME with latest updates
Latest verions of hardware drivers for audio, video, etc.
Vegas 2.0d and associated plugins
Sound Forge 5.0 and associated plugins
CakeWalk 9.03 and associated plugins
Internet browser, mail client
MS Office 2K
Various media players
etc.

Anyway, probably more than you wanted to know.
Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Can you reproduce this crash with a simple project with no
plug-ins inserted? Also, when does it crash? During
startup, or after you check the "load last project"
preference.

Ivan,

It happens after I set that preference and exit the
program. When I restart the app it starts to bring up the
interface and then the error message pops up.

I'll try it with just a simple file with no plugins and let
you know what happens.

Try moving the project (.veg) file to the same directory as
the media and opening it from there.

Hello,

I have the .veg files and the media files in the same
folder already. That was one of the first things I tried.

So I opened a simple wave file on one track,16/44.1, no
plugins, got the same behavior.

Observations:
I get the same error messages when I just double click
a .veg file even if it wasn't the last file used.

If I have an instance of Vegas open already and then double
click a Vegas file, another instance of Vegas starts and
the file opens just fine. Strange, almost like something
gets initialized and then everything is okay.

Thanks for your help.
