Vegas Crashing Hard

Derm wrote on 1/9/2008, 7:09 AM
Hi,
Im running the latest version of Vegas on a Core2 Duo machine and all has been pretty much OK since installing about 3 months ago. Today however, the program constantly crashes hard, just disappears, I have no idea what has brought this upon. No changes today in the system.Tried uninstalling, updating graphic card drivers, system restore, anything I can think of, and cant get it to stay open.
The project I am in the middle of is a few still images, transitions and one audio track. Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Derm

I think this may be caused by using jpegs that have a colour profile other than RGB. I imported the images into photoshop and a lot of them were CYMK, Vegas doesn't seem to like this. Hopefully changing the colour profile is the solution.

That might very well help. People have been reporting crashes on JPEGs, and Vegas doesn't enforce any rules about the stills you try to put on the timeline.

The behavior is similar to what Darren has been reporting about Quad Core crashes.

Here's something I'm reading right at the moment. There's a paragraph about DEP causing troubles, and you might want to turn this off in your BIOS. It might be shown as DEP or XD.

Hi Rob,
Changing the profile of the jpegs solved all the problems. When you hold the mouse over an image you are just told it's a jpeg or tiff or whatever.I noticed that some jpegs were slower to open than others, examining the profiles of these in Photoshop showed that they all had profiles other than RGB, so I just reassigned them. Glad to get this showstopper behind me and hopefully the experience will be of use to others.

Yes, the only trouble is ... i don't have any CMYK Jpegs otherwise I'd just convert them and all my troubles would be over.

Still bashing my head against a brick wall here.
