Vegas cursor not syncing in event fx tab and other...

keon-A wrote on 8/12/2022, 5:11 PM

This is my first time making one of these, so basically, I previously owned Vegas 18 but my laptop got fried due to a power surge in the area, I bought a PC, i5 cpu, 1660 super gpu, 16gn ram, 250 ssd, 1tb hdd and I've reinstalled vegas and all its plugins, however, when I apply an effect, say twixtor for example, I'm unable to pause or unpause the video from within the twixtor video event fx tab, I was able to do this before on my other system, is there a setting or something enabled preventing me from doing this? Also, the cursor sync is not working, only if I click somewhere with in twixtor event fx timeline it'll show on the preview window but if the video is playing, its not showing in the even fx tab, it will only show after I have paused the video, I hope how I've worded this isn't too confusing. and Yes I do have "sync cursor to media timeline" enabled and split screen view is disabled. Any ideas?

@keon-A - where are the Video Controls within that Tab? Please supply a screengrab. Curious...?

is this good for you?

@keon-A - Ah, yes. So it's NOT a TWIXTOR Preview Window, this is the VP Preview. I thought I must have overlooked a TWIXTOR Feature. Got it.

OK, tell me again what your issue is - please?

My bad, I'll leave a screenshot for u to refer to because my explanation may be a little confusing, so basically, when I apply any video fx and open up the video event fx for said effect as shown in the screenshot, I'm unable to PAUSE or UNPAUSE the playback from within that video event fx tab, nothing happens when I press spacebar. I would have to click outside of that video event fx tab anywhere on the vegas pro 18 application and then I'll be able to unpause or pause the video if I press spacebar. I was able to pause and unpause the video freely within that event tab on my old system with the same vegas pro 18, thats one problem. The SECOND issue is the "sync cursor to media timeline" I have it enabled but its still not working, if I unpause the video, the cursor remains in the same position, only after I then come to a pause the cursor would update its position to where I paused. On my old system If I unpaused the video I would be able to see the cursor moving in the media timeline in the video event fx tab. However If I click anywhere within the cursor media timeline it would be in sync and update on the preview window.

@keon-A As far as I can remember, the cursor in the FX window has never synced in real time when the Play button (or Spacebar) is pressed. It will if the timeline cursor is scrubbed. The timeline cursor will also sync if the FX cursor is scrubbed.
As far as the timeline cursor not playing when the spacebar is pressed while you are in the FX window. This also has always been the case. It happens because when you're in the FX window, it takes focus away from the timeline. When you click out of the FX window, focus is returned to the main window, and hence the timeline. The spacebar press is then recognised.

I've just confirmed these observations in VP18.

@keon-A - Scrubbing is Synced in TWIXTOR. Scrubbing on main T/L is synced. What else can I tell you?

Grazie wrote on 8/13/2022, 5:33 AM

Spacebar will NOT Sync. PLAY will Sync. Why? Because Spacebar gets Returned to the exact same position, so no need for Syncing 😉. However, PLAY puts Cursor in a NEW position so we get an Updated Position that IS synced 😁. I can't see an error.

@keon-A - And now, what do you have in Preferences for SpaceBar? This is what I have:

Well? - G

@Grazie I think the OP is of the opinion that the FX cursor should sync with the timeline cursor in real time, i.e. when the timeline cursor is moving, then the FX cursor should move with it. This has never been the case AFAIK. I'm willing to stand corrected, but I'm sure I'm right.

@keon-A Hi, when my mouse cursor is on the Video Event FX window altering the controls & i click the spacebar the main timeline doesn't play, also as has been said the keyframe cursor doesn't play/scroll in real time with the main timeline cursor, these work as designed but I would like to see real time playback sync of the keyframe cursor & try F12, that lets you play whilst using the controls in the Video Event FX

Glad @Jack S we sorted this out.

@keon-A As @Former user says, if you really want the timeline cursor to play when the FX window has focus, use the F12 key instead of Spacebar. I suspect that the reason that F12 works and Spacebar doesn't is because the function keys probably have an overriding keyboard interrupt than the normal keyboard keys. No doubt someone more knowledgable than me will correct me if I'm wrong.
