VEGAS & D-30

Does anyone have any experience using VEGAS 4.0 with a Sony D-30?

We are trying to capture direct to disk via firewire. We have have previously used Xl-1's, PD-150's, DVX-1000's, and TRV-900's with No Problem. VEGAS recognizes the D-30 but will not capture what the camera is looking at. It appears to want to capture what is on the tape as if it were a PlayBack Deck. VEGAS will control the camera but when you hit Record in VEGAS... VEGAS begins to capture whatever is on the tape in the D-30. The other Cameras would just show a picture and send it to VEGAS for Capturing. Also, none of the other cameras we have used required a tape at all but it appears that the D-30 must have a tape in it.

We are having to use Premiere Pro to do our captures. Then import the AVI into VEGAS for editing. Naturally we would much rather Capture & Edit with VEGAS. It just sux having to explain to your boss the reason that you are using another program to do what you said VEGAS would do. Plus Premiere is just not our NLE of choice.

Once again, we are trying to capture direct to disk via 1394. Not record to tape then capture to disk.

Thanks in advance,
Lamont

Had a similar problem with one of our cameras...but the fix turned out to be pretty simple :-)

In the Video capture interface (within vegas)...go to Options --> Preferences. Then under the "General" tab uncheck the "enable dv device control" box. This will allow for recording just using the "capture video" button. When you want to stop recording, just hit esc.

Hope that helps!

Tottally worked. I guess DV Device Control makes it work like a VTR. All we wanted to do was record the signal via FireWire. Unchecked the box and the Software rocks!

Thanks for the info.
