Vegas duplicating media files when saving.

I save all work in vegas to separate song folders on my
desktop. I always hit the check box for "copy all media
with project" in the save as screen. Each time I save,
however, Vegas saves a duplicate copy of the media files
in the vegas-main folder on my hard-drive, giving me two
complete sets of the same media. Question: I have been
unable to locate a check box somewhere in the program to
keep vegas from doing this, what am I missing? Is vegas
designed to do this as an auto-back-up procedure, or do I
have the option of chaning this? It seems like a great
safety net designed into the system, but I only have a 25
gig hard drive and need the space:
Thanks:

Hello Jennifer.

As far as I know, as of now, there is no option to delete these files
unless you manually do it. I'll tell you what I do at home...

First, I record all of my tracks, add my effects, edit the project,
then once I am finally done, I save my projects WITH the copy all
media option checkmarked, after doing that, I go into my Vegas
temporary file storage directory and delete ALL of the .wav/.sfk
files... leaving only the files that I need in the folder with the
actual Vegas project.
It seems to be working out nicely for me...

Thanks.

Go to "file" then "save." There is a checkbox on the bottom of the save menu called "copy all media files with project." Uncheck it and files won't be duplicated when saving. Get into the habit of setting up project specific folders for all of your wavs and edit the path where Vegas will save your files under "file" then "properties." Name everything you record in a manner that makes sense "synth_stab_take_one" and you will always be able to organize your files. Hope this helps. -Tad www.peepstudios.com
