Vegas + DVD Production Suite is Awesome

Thanks for the upgrade Sony Madisson

$199 for what you have delivered is a giveaway

I like the new features in Vegas, 3D compositiing, Bezier masks, improved MPEG, subtitles, 5.1 mastering, realtime downmix, subclips etc, etc and I can't wait to get a control surface of some sort. All the UI and smaller enhancements make the whole thing "feel" better than ever.

If I couple this with DVDA 2 - Great new features across the board, outstanding workflow with Vegas. Almost speechless

And thanks SonyEPM, I had a problem with PAL Widescreen and appeared to be the only person having the issue - you fixed it in 5, thanks for listening.

And for $199 I get a rock solid 5.0a and 5.0b/5.0c to look forward to which I am sure will add to what's already been delivered.

I don't know what they put in the water in Madisson but it has created a media suite (ACID, Sound Forge, Noise Reduction as welll) that absolutely Rocks!

Thanks, Paul

Grazie,

I am the luuuvvv machine,

I have bought a cheap midi control surface and I have set it up and it is like a shuttlepro on steriods

This type of functionality makes editing a joy not a chore

This software suite really is productive, I have Premier Pro and there are features that are good but in day to day use there is only one choice.

With Vegas and Suite I don't feel, well hacked off the way you do with the other stuff.

Paul,

What MIDI controller are you using?

Thanks!

I did an impulsive buy of a Edirol UR-80 becasue it had the transport controls, jog wheel eight sliders and a master, 10 buttons for whatever and a set of transport buttons (home, rewind, fast forward, stop, play and record).

I am just setting it up which is so easy using the generic control surface template.

The difficult bit at the moment is finding the right match of controls against actions in Vegas, so that it fits my personal workflow.

I went for the UR-80 as a low cost control surface with faders and jog wheels seemed difficult to find. The Ur-80 also has a MIDI in port so I can connect my keyboard to it along with a mic and a set of headphones plus a stereo input

The little time I have had with it has makes me think - WWooooWWW

this is way too cool, think of a multi cam fade where you need to run it several times to get the fade just right, there are times when a mouse just will not do.

This is a key piece of functionality added to Vegas which the audio guys have wanted but I think the A/V community will benefit the most.

would an oxygen or ozone board using reason work?
PAW wrote on 4/23/2004, 1:14 PM

not familiar with the oxygen or ozone board but if you are using them with reason I think you are talking from an audio perspective hence the mention of reason.

Why do you ask?

oxygen and ozone will work fine, though the controls on them are limited. (no jog, no buttons)

Am I to understand that the only connection between this device and the computer is USB? Are there any other similarly priced (or lower) devices that would also work?

In another thread this device was suggested:

http://www.behringer.com/BCF2000/index.cfm?lang=ENG

... and it has motorized sliders.
PAW wrote on 4/24/2004, 5:33 AM

yeah I saw the thread and had a look at the Behringer.

The only thing it was missing was a jog wheel for the frame by frame stuff otherwise I would probably have gone for that.

Funny thing is at the moment I am trying to configure the UR-80 jog wheel to act as jog forward/reverse (F3/F9) but this option is not available for the generic control surface driver.

I can configure it for cursor frame next/previous and event trim next/previous but not the jog option which would then allow the jog wheel to perform both functions from one setting

There also seems to be a lag for the faders to kick in i.e slide up and nothing happens then slide down and it responds and then after that responds well.

Anyone else trying this and have any ideas?
