Vegas explorer window can't see video file \users

I just moved my installation of Vegas Movie Studio 9 over to my new Dell Studio XPS Core i7 computer with Windows 7. I have some videos in the c:\users\jeff\.... directory.

Problem is when I'm inside Vegas and use the media explorer window to go get the videos to drag the info Vegas timeline, they don't show up. The explorer window inside Vegas will not show me anything inside the \users directory, even though that is where my user info is. I have admin priveliges, and in fact, with Windows Explorer, I can see my files, so why won't Vegas show them?

Has anyone ever run into this issue?

Your comment was not clear. For example:
1. Are you talking about existing projects that you reloaded and now they can't find the video files, or about new projects, where the media explorer window can't see any video files in the right folders?
2. What kind of format are we talking about?
3. Did you actually re-install Vegas? Copying the program files folder won't work, because while it might load, the codecs won't be registered, so it won't recognize many file formats this way. So make sure you actually re-install Vegas properly in the new PC.

I did a brand new install of Vegas studio on my new PC, I did not copy any video files over. But on my home network, I can easily open up projects, etc. , codecs ar enot the issue.

The problem I have is I just uploaded my high def video that I shot on my Canon Vixia HF10, and the file is an MTS file, on my new Windows 7 PC, and it was loaded by defualt to my users\jeff\mydocuments\.... folder.

Vegas could not reach the video file, because anythng below \users shows empty, so I can't use the Vegas explorer to go drag it to my time line.

Instead, I moved the MTS video fiel to the root of my new PC hard drive, and from there, Vegas was able to see the file and I loaded it and rendered it perfectly without further issue.

My question is why did Vegas see the file on the root of the drive, but not see the file when it was in Mydocuments? As soon as I tried to enter the Users folder using Vegas, it would not show anything inside the users folder, so there was no way to get into my Jeff folder inside \users. I have full admin rights, and I can pull up a normal Windows 7 explorer window and navigate down into users, then down into Jeff, then down in to mydocuments, etc., but I can't do it through Vegas.

Maybe this is a bit too obvious of a simple solution, but ... don't use that folder. Create a folder in the root of the drive specifically for capturing and put your video files there.

That's what I plan to do, but still wondering why it does that. It's almost like the computer is lying to the Vegas Explorer and saying "No, there are no users or files in the users folder, when in reality there are.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen this and dealt with it or solved it. What's odd is I can open and close my projects that are stored in the \users\jeff\mydocuments folder, but when just can't get at them with the Vegas Explorer.

Haven't had the problem with Vegas, but the photo editing software i use wouldn't see any folders that came alphabetically after 'my documents' under windows 98. I renamed it to 'zzzmydocs', since i never use it anyway, and then all the other folders showed up. Weird.

Just a last little thought ... have you tried refreshing the window? Press F5 and see what happens.
