I downloaded Vegas PE 9.0 for my 64 bit system.

I have had nothing but issues for the past two weeks. I finally sent an email request for tech support and was informed 64 bit is not supported.

This lack of 64 bit support was nowhere in the system requirements online or on the retail box in-store.

I will be requesting a full refund.

You have to go with the Pro version if you really need a 64-bit Vegas. That being said, I'm using the 32-bit VMS 9 on my 64-bit Vista computer and couldn't be happier. No glitches or bugs. Never has crashed. Renders are very fast. Very solid. Turns out I'm one of the lucky ones.

But it's true Sony support won't help you if you are using a 32-bit VMS on a 64-bit OS and are having issues where that difference might be the cause.

So you have to decide if you're feeling lucky.

I'm another Vista 64-bit user, who is successfully using Sony VMS9.0b.

As the others report, Sony does not officially support it on a 64-bit OS, but that doesn't mean it can't or won't run properly.

One of the primary issues is that many people, 32-bit or 64-bit, see the program crash when rendering full HD .m2ts files, but there is a non-Sony work-around if this is a problem for you.

The Pro version does have a 64-bit flavor, but this is dramatically more money, and at least with Version 8, there were still some issues in general, as well as sometimes with AVCHD files.

I am curious, how long are your videos? I am having problems with mine. the system crashes after I import 150 clips. My videos are 40 minutes in length STANDARD DEFINITION. I had no problems on my Windows XP Vegas movie studio 6.

Thanks!

Not sure if you were asking me, but my videos are usually fairly short - just 5 to 10 minutes or so. They are rendered from perhaps 30-60 individual clips. So they're definitely not large, involved projects.

I suppose this could be an issue.

My longest video was only 19 minutes with about 50 DV clips and 20 pictures. I've monitored memory use and don't think I've gone much past 2GB yet (out of 6GB) on my 64-bit system. So it could be that I've had no issues with VMS because I haven't really reach the breaking point some have hit. But I think others have complained about crashing even with small projects.

It's hard to compare projects by the length or the number of clips. Is there another common metric that can be used to compare the relative size of projects from different users so we might find a breaking point? For instance, VMS would consistantly crash on certain systems when a project goes past 3 gigaflarbs. For other systems, that breaking point is 2 gigaflarbs.

My last project contained over 700 clips and was 40 minutes long using XP. Silly me-to assume that I could do the same thing on what appears to be a twice as powerful computer (hard drive, RAM, duo core processor etc.) It has to be the combination of Vista 64 bit, Vegas 9 and possible my hard drive camcorder vs my older digital 8 camcorder-poor communication between all 3.

How do I check how much memory my project is using?

Did anyone who has managed to run VMS on a 64 bit OS have any problems with installation?

I keep getting asked for Direct X 9. I have Direct X 10 on my system. On my first attempt at installing Direct X 9 (through SONY's installation program) I got an error. I tried again running the VMS 9.0b installer in Win XP compatibility mode, and DX 9 installed; however, the installer asked for DX 9 again when I tried to run it.

Has anyone else seen this and found a solution?

I have Vegas MS Platinum 6.0. Will it run on 63 bit computer? Is it more likely I would be better off upgrading to 9.0 instead? I'm not into HD yet and not sure whether the 9.0 upgrade would be worthwhile even if 6.0 would run on my ne 64 bit computer.
