Vegas FX Question

Okay, all you Vegas virtuosos (virtuosi?) I need your help and suggestions.

I have a project that calls for the following (this is an exterior shot--day on the beach): "... a bright light comes down from the sky and shines on Bolo."

Is that something that can be done in post with Vegas, or am I going to have to have something else to accomplish this?

I can think of ways to do this (big bucks), but I'm trying to work within a nearly nonexistent budget.

Thanks!

Jay, have you already shot the scene? If not, definitely do the light on the set if at all possible. I have yet to see a truely convincing lighting effect done in Post.
A "less expensive possibility" (rather than using a HMI) might be to have a nice shiney reflector on the set and just bounce direct sunlight.
Sorry I couldn't be more help than that.

Matthew, the HMI route was exactly what I was thinking of. I may have to resort to that, but the client hasn't told me what the budget is yet.

Just two replies? That's all?

I dont know about doing it in Vegas, but Trapcode plugins can accomplish it. A bit pricey for a limited budget though.

OK - First I'm not even close to a virtuoso - A rank beginner. But here is what I would do. Dup the video track and apply a mask over the area you want to appear as the light.. Then add a glow to the masked area. Then do a linear downward wipe do make it appear from above. May be cheesey but you can play with other effects to make it look better.

Thanks, guys. The Lux plug-in looks good, except for one thing--After Effects!
